ITF-14, SCC-14

Description of ITF-14, SCC-14

ActiveBarcode: ITF-14, SCC-14The ITF-14 barcode (also known as SCC-14) is generally used to represent the shipping container symbol. This code is used to label cartons or pallets containing products marked with an EAN-13. A digit is placed in front of the actual EAN-13 code to indicate the type of packaging.

The ITF-14 is always 14 characters long:
  • The first digit is the type of packaging.
  • The following 12 digits represent the product code. This is usually the EAN-13 number without the check digit of the EAN-13, i.e. only the first 12 digits of the EAN-13.
  • The last digit of the ITF-14 is the check digit. ActiveBarcode calculates this check digit automatically. You do not need to calculate the check digit yourself.

The designation ITF-14 is a combination of the barcode type used, Interleaved 2 of 5 (Code 25 Interleaved, ITF = Interleaved Two of Five), and the 14 digits to be represented, the length of the container symbol.

The ITF-14 barcode itself can optionally have a thick solid frame around the barcode. This frame is called bearer bars. ActiveBarcode does not create this frame because it is not necessary for barcode recognition.
